Song Hye-kyo on ‘TaeHyeJi’ and Beauty “I’m Past the Age of Relying on My Looks”

On Jan 21st, an interview with Song Hye-kyo, star of the film “Dark Nuns“, was held at a café in Sogyeok-dong, Seoul.
When asked about her recent performances, where she seemingly paid less attention to her appearance, Song Hye-kyo responded, “It’s been quite a while since I let go of focusing on my looks. This was the case with ‘The Glory’ as well. Since I’ve been working on genres like this, there wasn’t even a reflector used on set. Of course, adjustments were made to suit the tone of the film and the staff paid attention to the details, but there was no reflector. I think it suited the role better that way.”
She continued, “Of course, when it comes to events or shooting commercials, I put in a lot of effort to look good. I want to look pretty. But now that I’m in my 40s, I feel like I’m past the age where I can rely on my looks in projects. I keep telling myself, ‘I have to focus on acting now.’“

Regarding the type of feedback she hopes to receive in the future, Song Hye-kyo emphasized, “Hearing that my acting was good is the ultimate compliment for an actor. More than being called pretty, I’d love to hear people say my acting was amazing. That would be the best. I hope to hear that more often.“
Song Hye-kyo also addressed the term “TaeHyeJi”, which refers to Kim Tae-hee, Jun Ji-hyun and Song Hye-kyo—three actresses known for their beauty and acting prowess since their 20s in the early 2000s.

When asked about the moniker, Song Hye-kyo joked, “Who came up with that?” She added, “When I was younger, I liked it. They’re all actresses I admire too. I’m grateful that people still refer to us like that. But I think it’s time for new nicknames for the younger generation of actors.” Her humble and shy response drew attention.
Meanwhile, “Dark Nuns” (directed by Kwon Hyeok-jae, provided/distributed by NEW, produced by Zip Cinema) tells the story of individuals who perform a forbidden ritual to save a boy possessed by a powerful evil spirit. Song Hye-kyo takes on the role of Sister Junia, delivering a passionate performance.
